Former White House intern Monika Lewinsky is never one to shy away from an internet trend – but her ‘legendary’ latest foray into the world of viral memes has been hailed as her ‘best yet’ by stunned social media users.

The 50-year-old activist sparked a firestorm of excitement overnight when she posted her response to the Taylor Swift meme; ‘You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me.’

The line comes from a popular song Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? on the songstress’ new album; The Tortured Poets Department.

People have taken the line and run with it; posting photos from their past from their own ‘traumas’ – some serious; but many posting hilarious photos and references

Lewinsky posted the iconic song line to X along with her ‘asylum’ – a picture of the White House – in reference to the infamous Clinton–Lewinsky scandal of the 1990s.

Social media users found the response hilarious – praising Lewinsky for her awareness and sense of humor.

‘If Tweeting was an Olympic sport, Monica Lewinsky won a gold medal with this gem,’ one user declared.

‘This the best one of these,’ agreed another.

‘So do we just shut down the app now?’ joked someone else. ‘Because it’s never going to get better than this.’

‘Monica really said “hold my beer, I’m about to drop the best tweet of all time,’ another user chimed in.

Lewinsky famously had an affair with Clinton from 1995 until 1997, with their relationship beginning when she was a 22-year-old unpaid White House intern.

The scandal eventually led to his impeachment.

On August 17, 1998, after multiple denials, the former President appeared on television and finally confessed he was ‘solely and completely responsible’ for the relationship.

Lewinsky has talked about the affair numerous times since it was made public.

She initially retreated from the public eye, admitting she was left feeling suicidal after being hounded by the Press and ridiculed on talk shows.

‘I just couldn’t see a way out, and I thought that maybe was the solution,’ she said years later.

She admitted it was ‘terrifying’ to make the decision to step back into the public eye, but it has helped her to ‘reclaim’ the narrative about her life, following the infamous fallout over her affair with then-president.

After spending time away from the public, Lewinsky made a grand return in 2014 with a personal essay for Vanity Fair.

She has since dedicated a large portion of her time to advocating against online bullying and working to help create a safer social media environment.

In 2019, she then signed on as a producer on Impeachment: American Crime Story, Ryan Murphy’s series chronicling her affair with Clinton and his impeachment trial.

She went on to launch her own production company, Alt Ending Productions, in 2021 – signing a first-look deal for scripted dramas with 20th Television.’
